Position: R&D Technician
Based: Haddenham, United Kingdom
Type of contract: Fixed-term contract for 12 months
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Compounding of seasonings samples (some cooking and working with meat & poultry ingredients may be required). Application of seasonings onto relevant base per Customer / Developer requests. Assist in preparing samples for research, shelf-life test, and other requirements.
- Prepare and dispatch samples to customers globally meeting specific customs requirements for each country. Working with existing systems to create the necessary documents and liaising with International Trade Compliance team.
- Maintain laboratory stock of raw materials including experimental raw materials, keeping stock levels at an appropriate level. Must ensure Raw Material and Product retains, in accordance with the Gold Standard Programme, are kept as required and are within shelf-life date requirements.
- Ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with Company, Third Party and Customer requirements and in line with key performance indicators
- Sampling and picking up of raw materials from the factory located on the same site.
- Setting up an internal tasting panel for flavour evaluation of raw materials and finished products including FTO trial samples. Maintaining tasting records
- Attendance and participation at routine sensory panels, both R&D and Quality
- Working on existing lab systems to maintain data and traceability of raw materials and finished products.
- Be cross trained on a range of other duties in the department to participate in cover for daily activity of R&D Lab team as required to ensure tasks are completed in accordance with deadlines.
- Manage Third Party calibration of scales and equipment for R&D Lab in order to meet requirements of the QMS, Regulatory and Audit requirements
- Maintain a clean and safe Laboratory environment in accordance with health & safety standards.
- Conducting internal audits (HACCP, quality systems, food safety, glass and Health & Safety)
- Support the preparation and execution of External Customer and Third Party Audit programme
- Lead and/or actively participate in continuous improvement projects
CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Further educated to HNC or equivalent in a science subject (preferably chemistry / biochemistry). Practical experience of Good Laboratory Practices.
- Degree in Food Science / Nutrition / Consumer Science would be advantageous.
- Relevant experience in a manufacturing environment working within Laboratory or Food Industry.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of SAP would be advantageous.
- PC literate as a minimum.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret analytical and microbiological data.
- Willing and capable to learn new skills.
- Must be willing to work in a manufacturing environment.
- Effective Time Management Skills
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and to deal with constant changes
