The Role

As the Rail Operations and Planning Manager, you'll be responsible for overseeing the entire rail function, from planning and forecasting cement production schedules to managing the safe and compliant movement of materials. Working closely with both Production, Logistics and Operations, you will ensure smooth coordination between rail infrastructure, production teams, and external contractors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and oversee rail loading and production plans to meet demand efficiently.
  • Lead and manage the rail function, including a team of direct colleagues and contractors.
  • Ensure all rail operations comply with safety, compliance, and inspection regulations.
  • Manage the rail track inspection and maintenance programs.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams (Logistics and Operations) and external partners to optimise rail performance.
  • Drive continuous improvements in rail operations through strong leadership and strategic planning.
What We're Looking For
  • Proven experience in rail logistics, scheduling, or production planning.
  • Full certification for locomotive operation to Network Rail standards.
  • Strong understanding of competency requirements for rail operations and industry rule books.
  • Experience with business management systems and standards such as ISO 14001, ISO 9001, and ISO 45001.
  • Highly organised with exceptional analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Commutable to Hope Valley - Derbyshire.
