Job Location : Malham Tarn, UK
As a Ranger, you’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people.
You should be willing to work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings.
What it's like to work hereYou’ll be part of a small ranger team, working together with volunteers across a range of habitats. Using your practical countryside management skills, you’ll be helping to manage and improve the places we look after.
You'll mainly be based at Malham, where we look after internationally important habitats including Malham Tarn National Nature Reserve and New House NNR. Our valuable habitats include fen, raised bog, woodland and scrub, species-rich limestone grasslands and traditional upland hay meadows amongst many others. We also work across other parts of the Yorkshire Dales landscape working with different teams, partners and stakeholders.
Our landscape recovery project; Heart of the Dales; will focus on delivering significant gains for habitats and farming in partnership with tenant farmers and landowners across a landscape scale. We’re working hard to tackle the impacts of biodiversity loss and climate crisis.
What you'll be doingYou’ll be helping to protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery. You’ll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do. Whenever and wherever you come across people, you’ll take the time to talk to them and answer their questions, rather than rushing away to the next task.
You’ll help with practical habitat management, estate maintenance and looking after our countryside, in a safe and sustainable way. You’ll help manage regular volunteer groups, leading practical countryside tasks, and assist with ecological surveys and visitor engagement.
You’ll play a key role in ensuring Malham is a great place for people to connect with nature and enjoy the outdoors and through our work build relationships with the local community.
It is all about being outside and getting your hands dirty, looking after nature and cultural heritage and making our sites accessible for our many visitors.
