As a Ranger, you’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people.
You should be willing to work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings, and be on call.
What it's like to work here Working in the Norfolk Coast and Broads portfolio, you’ll based at Blakeney but will occasionally support colleagues with tasks at Brancaster and at Horsey. The countryside team works with volunteers, local landowners, businesses and in partnership with other conservation organisations to care for Blakeney National Nature Reserve, ensuring it remains a special place for nature and visitors. You’ll be part of a team of nine Countryside colleagues some of whom are based at other sites within the property group and some of whom are employed seasonally. The Countryside Manager oversees operations, and line manages three Area Rangers who have responsibility for leading the Rangers and Assistant Rangers and ensuring the day-to-day tasks are allocated. You’ll be expected to manage and lead groups of volunteers. The team also works closely with colleagues in different departments on property and with National Trust advisors from both regional and national offices. What you'll be doingYou’ll be helping to protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery. You’ll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do. Whenever and wherever you come across people, you’ll take the time to talk to them and answer their questions, rather than rushing away to the next task.
You’ll make sure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You’ll build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work you and the team are doing.
We care for saltmarshes, sand dunes, vegetated shingle, grazing marshes and areas of acid grassland. Where we work is dynamic, great for nature and hosts an amazing diversity of birds, animals, plant life and invertebrates; the seasonal differences are amazing and every day is unique. We are involved in habitat management, site presentation, undertake surveys, deliver education and produce interpretation materials, our team is practically minded and good with wildlife, machinery and people.
