As a Ranger, you’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people.
You should be willing to work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings, and be on call.
What it's like to work hereYou'll work from Gibside and across the Derwent, Wear & Coast portfolio, including Souter Lighthouse & The Leas, The Durham Coast and Penshaw Monument and your atart location will depend on operational demand so a full driving licence with access to transport is essential.
Situated just outside Gateshead, this 18th century landscape garden and wildlife haven is loved by the local community. Weekly activities, play trails, and an adventure playground have made Gibside popular with families, and visitor numbers have doubled in the last five years.

You’ll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do. Whenever and wherever you come across people, you’ll take the time to talk to them and answer their questions, rather than rushing away to the next task.
You’ll make sure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You’ll build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work you and the team are doing.
