About the role
As an RPG Developer you'll work in a team within a fast-paced tech environment. Striving to achieve 'best in class’ standards, you'll take ownership of development, enhancement and maintenance of software applications written in RPG and/or CLP and provide efficient and effective code.
This role will help deliver the long-term strategy of the RPG Engineering function, which is currently leading the business through an exciting period of growth. Collaborating closely with various teams, you'll ensure that developments are delivered on schedule and fit for purpose, maintaining a high level of quality and alignment to organisational objectives.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Working closely with the wider Engineering team, applying skills and experience.
- Completing all work allocated in a timely manner and to the expected quality.
- Participation in Continuous Improvement activities that improve operational effectiveness and product quality.
- Fully utilising digital systems to optimise delivery of the product roadmap.
- Engaging with product delivery stakeholders as well as customers and client-facing stakeholders, to maximise knowledge sharing when necessary.
- Working in a multi-discipline team to translate requirements into a test strategy, implementation plans and deliver fully realised solutions.
- Understanding and interpreting user needs / requirements to influence and define the system requirements, architecture, and design.
- Being the technical point of contact and liaison point for customer and/or partner organisations.
- Analysing, designing, developing, and maintaining iSeries applications software utilising RPG, RPG ILE, SQLRPGLE and CL/CLLE.
- Troubleshooting and debugging existing code and system to identify and resolve issues.
Skills & experience
- IBM iSeries AS/400 experience.
- RPG IV, RPG Free, ILE, CL, CLLE.
- Use of embedded SQL.
- Experience in continuous improvement projects and initiative rollouts.
- Analytical and problem solving with strong technical skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Can demonstrate a good knowledge of compliance and security standards.
- Experience in investigating new technologies and providing feedback on system improvements. Any previous experience with APIs or Payroll Applications would be a bonus.

- Technically minded with an excellent understanding of delivering a great customer experience through the use of technology to underpin the services delivered.
- Able to work under pressure and demonstrate initiative, enthusiasm, and a rapid learning capability.
- Supporting the business, you must be able to work independently, balancing day-to-day support issues and supporting projects/initiatives, often working on more than one project/initiative at a time and being able to absorb new information quickly.
- The ability to think logically and work well under pressure.
