Tempest Resourcing is collaborating with a secondary school in Hackney that is seeking a Caretaker to join their team. This position is temporary with the potential for permanent employment, and they are looking for someone to start as soon as possible.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the daily operations and maintenance of school buildings, grounds, and facilities to ensure a safe learning environment.
- Schedule and supervise routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections for all school facilities, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Develop and manage the facilities budget, including forecasting expenses, tracking costs, and optimising resource allocation.
- Lead and manage the facilities team, providing training and performance evaluations.
- Ensure all facilities meet local council, and government safety standards; conduct regular safety inspections and implement necessary improvements.
- Develop and implement emergency plans and procedures, including evacuation protocols and disaster recovery strategies.
- Liaise with school leadership, staff, and the community to address facilities-related needs and enhance overall school operations.
Required skills and experience
- Maintenance Skills: Experience with basic plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and general repairs to maintain school buildings and grounds.
- Cleaning and Housekeeping: Strong ability to perform cleaning duties, ensuring a clean and hygienic environment throughout the school.
- Health and Safety Knowledge: Understanding of health and safety regulations, with the ability to conduct safety checks and address potential hazards.
- Organisational Skills: Ability to manage and prioritise tasks effectively, ensuring maintenance schedules are followed.
- Physical Stamina: Capable of handling physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and performing demanding maintenance work.
- Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills for liaising with staff, students, and external contractors.
- Teamwork: Ability to work well within a team and collaborate on various tasks and projects.
- Security Awareness: Knowledge of security protocols to ensure the safety of the premises, including locking/unlocking buildings.
- Experience: Prior experience in a caretaking or maintenance role, preferably within a school or similar environment.
