About the Role:

Equitas are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Second in Charge (2iC) of Religious Education (RE) to join our dynamic Humanities department. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced RE teacher to step into a leadership position, supporting the Head of Department in driving outstanding teaching and learning within the subject.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head of RE in leading the department, ensuring high standards of teaching and student achievement.
  • Support with curriculum development, lesson planning, and assessment strategies to enhance student progress.
  • Teach RE across Key Stages 3, 4, and, if applicable, Key Stage 5, delivering engaging and thought-provoking lessons.
  • Contribute to the professional development of colleagues within the department through coaching, mentoring, and sharing best practices.
  • Assist with departmental monitoring, including lesson observations, book scrutinies, and data analysis to inform teaching strategies.
  • Play a key role in implementing and promoting the school’s ethos and values within the RE curriculum.
  • Support with planning and delivering extracurricular activities, including assemblies, enrichment programs, and trips.
  • Take responsibility for a specific area within the department (e.g., Key Stage 3 or 4 lead, assessment lead, or another designated responsibility).
  • Step in for the Head of RE when required, ensuring the smooth running of the department.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant degree in Religious Education, Theology, or a related subject.
  • Proven experience teaching RE at secondary level, with strong subject knowledge and a passion for the subject.
  • Experience in leading initiatives, mentoring, or supporting the professional development of others.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and challenge students of all abilities.
  • A commitment to promoting respect, tolerance, and inclusivity within the RE curriculum.

Desirable:

  • Previous leadership experience desired (but not essential), such as Key Stage Coordinator or Subject Lead.
  • Understanding of current educational developments in RE, including curriculum changes and assessment strategies.
