SEN - Learning Support Assistant - ASAP Start! - Reed : Job Details

Do you have experience working with young people with special educational needs? 

Reed Education Southampton are currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Learning Support Assistant for a full time, permanent role within a large specialist school, based in Totton.

At the school, the vision is to provide a high quality education where accessibility and inclusivity are the central focus with regards to education delivery. They provide education for children and young people aged between 2-19, with severe, profound and complex learning difficulties. In addition, the majority of pupils who attend have co-occurring needs including Autism, Down Syndrome and physical disabilities.

As the Learning Support Assistant, you will:

• Have great communication skills with empathy for children
• Be confident working in small groups or 1:1, with experience of dealing with various behaviours consistently
• Able to work independently and with initiative
• Physically and emotionally suited to working in an environment involving manual handling, challenging behaviours and personal hygiene of pupils
• Be committed to training and development within the position
• Specific skills including Makaton, tube feeding, epilepsy, simple communication aids, Team Teach, PECS, TEACCH to support learning (desirable but not essential)
• Experience of completion of records and assessments for children (desirable)

The salary for this role is currently set at LSA Grade B (band is dependant on level of experience), and is a full time, permanent position.
