SEND Teaching Assistant

We are supporting a Secondary Special School in South London with their search for a Teaching Assistant to join their post-16 cohort, focusing on students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This role is particularly suited to individuals with a strong background in Art/Media, as it involves significant interaction with their KS5 Art and Media courses.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Provide tailored support to post-16 students, particularly those with additional educational needs, within the Art/Media pathways.
- Utilise effective behaviour management skills to foster a positive learning environment.
- Support the academic and personal development of students, helping them transition to further education, training, or employment.
- Work closely with educational staff to implement strategies that cater to SEMH needs.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of SEMH with several years of experience in the field.
- Proven experience working with post-16 students, including those with additional educational needs.
- Competence in supporting KS5 Art/Media pathways.
- Effective behaviour management skills and the ability to foster positive relationships with students.
Desirable Skills and Attributes:
- Background or qualifications in Art/Media to align with the needs of the KS5 curriculum.
- A patient and empathetic approach, focusing on supporting young adults’ personal and academic development.
- Experience in assisting students with transitions to further education, training, or employment.
