SEN Support Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Support Assistant to join our team in Lambeth. This role involves providing essential learning and accessibility support to young people and adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including those with severe and complex learning difficulties and/or disabilities. The position requires a compassionate individual who can facilitate access to learning programmes and college services, and support personal development and educational outcomes aligned with individual Educational Health & Care Plans (EHCPs).

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Provide person-centred learning support to students, which may include assisting with personal care as necessary.
  • Work with individuals or small groups to encourage engagement with activities and independent work.
  • Support the team in facilitating students’ access to and achievement of learning programmes.
  • Assist in supporting students’ access to all college services and college-led activities.
  • Help facilitate the personal development of learning/study skills and educational outcomes relevant to individual EHCPs.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, parents/carers, and other agencies involved with the students.
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, discrimination issues, and the challenges faced by individuals with learning difficulties.
  • Willingness to assist learners with personal care and mobility, taking instructions from learners regarding their support needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Exceptional organisational skills combined with proficient IT knowledge and sound administration skills.
  • Experience of working with SEN learners in a secondary or further education environment is desirable.
