Main PurposeThe TA will:

  • Collaborate with class teachers to enhance the learning and achievement of pupils.
  • Foster pupils’ independence, self-esteem, and social inclusion.
  • Provide support to pupils, individually or in groups, to help them access the curriculum, engage in learning, and experience a sense of accomplishment.
  • Assist with planning, preparation, and resourcing for lessons.

Duties and ResponsibilitiesTeaching and Learning

  • Adopt an informed and efficient approach to teaching and learning by implementing relevant strategies to support the teacher’s work and boost the achievement of all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
  • Encourage the participation of all pupils in learning and extracurricular activities to promote, support, and facilitate inclusion.
  • Consistently apply effective behaviour management strategies in line with the school’s policies and procedures.
  • Assist class teachers in maintaining good order and discipline among pupils, managing behaviour effectively to ensure a positive and safe learning environment.
  • Organise and manage teaching space and resources to help maintain a stimulating and safe learning environment.
  • Observe pupil performance and relay observations to the class teacher.
  • Supervise a class if the teacher is temporarily unavailable.
  • Utilise ICT skills to enhance pupils’ learning.
  • Perform any other relevant duties assigned by the class teacher.
  • Cover and lead class teaching (under supervision) as needed.
  • Direct the work of other adults in supported learning, where relevant.
  • Mark pupils’ work under the direction of the class teacher.
  • Develop relationships to foster links between home and school, and keep the school informed of relevant information, where appropriate.
  • Be familiar with and apply school policies on Child Protection, Health and Safety, Behaviour, Teaching and Learning, Equal Opportunities, etc.
  • Be aware of confidential issues related to home/pupil/teacher/school.
  • Support playground/break time supervision, e.g., educational games, homework clubs, etc.
  • Accompany teachers and pupils on educational visits.
  • Provide individual support during examination sessions, as required.
  • Assist pupils with self-care, if or when needed.
