The Role:As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work directly with children who have a variety of learning difficulties, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, physical disabilities, and speech and language needs. You will provide individual and small group support, helping students to access the curriculum and develop the social, emotional, and academic skills they need to thrive. You will collaborate closely with teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), and other staff to ensure students receive tailored support and achieve their learning goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support individual students or small groups of students with a range of special educational needs, including both academic and personal support.
  • Help students engage with their learning, providing guidance and encouragement as they progress through the curriculum.
  • Assist in managing challenging behaviors, using positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques to maintain a calm and productive learning environment.
  • Work with the teacher to implement individualized learning plans (ILPs) and assist in tracking student progress.
  • Support students with personal care tasks when necessary, always maintaining their dignity and privacy.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students to foster their confidence, self-esteem, and emotional well-being.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive classroom environment, ensuring the needs of all students are met.
  • Help prepare classroom resources and assist with classroom activities.
  • Collaborate with other staff members, including class teachers, therapists, and SENCOs, to share insights and ensure effective support for each child.

  • A passion for working with children, particularly those with special educational needs.
  • Previous experience in a similar role (SEN experience is desirable but not essential).
  • Patience, empathy, and a calm, understanding approach when supporting children with SEN.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A flexible and proactive attitude, with the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the students.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Relevant qualifications (such as CACHE Level 2/3, or equivalent) are desirable, but not required.

Why Join Us:

  • A welcoming, supportive, and passionate team that values every staff member.

  • The chance to make a significant difference in the lives of children with special educational needs.
  • A positive, inclusive school culture that encourages creativity, collaboration, and innovation.
