About Us:I am recruiting on behalf of a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in St Helens, committed to providing an inclusive, supportive, and safe learning environment for students with a variety of learning difficulties and disabilities. Our school works tirelessly to ensure that each child receives the care, guidance, and opportunities they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We are now looking for a caring and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join our team and support our students in their learning journey.

The Role:As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who have a range of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and physical disabilities. Your role will involve providing both individual and small group support to help students access the curriculum and develop important life skills. You will also support the class teacher in the day-to-day running of the classroom, ensuring that every student receives the tailored support they need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEN, helping them engage with the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.
  • Assist students in developing social, emotional, and behavioral skills, including supporting with any challenging behavior.
  • Support students with personal care and mobility, as required, ensuring their dignity and comfort at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), and other staff to implement individual learning plans (ILPs) and track progress.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes the well-being of all students.
  • Record and report on student progress, identifying areas where additional support is needed.
  • Help prepare classroom resources, activities, and learning materials.
  • Support students in developing independence and self-confidence, encouraging them to take an active role in their learning.
  • Work with parents and caregivers to ensure the best possible outcomes for students.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A genuine passion for working with children with special educational needs.
  • Previous experience working with children, ideally in a SEN setting (experience with specific SEN such as autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities is highly desirable).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a flexible approach to meet the individual needs of students.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • A proactive, team-oriented attitude and the ability to use your initiative when required.
  • Relevant qualifications (such as CACHE Level 2/3, or equivalent) are desirable, but not essential.
