Are you a Finance professional looking for a challenging and rewarding role where you can make a real impact? ASA are currently recruiting for a Senior Accountant to work alongside a client in the public sector on an initial 12-month contract, hybrid or remote working available.
In this pivotal role, you will support the Principal Accountant and Finance Manager in ensuring effective financial management across various service departments. Key Responsibilities:· Financial Planning & Advice: Provide strategic financial support for medium and long-term planning to ensure departments manage their financial resources effectively.· Budget Preparation & Monitoring: Assist with capital and revenue budget processes, offering crucial support to service management teams.· Financial Performance Reporting: Monitor and report on financial performance to drive efficiency improvements and cost reductions.· Corporate Finance Services: Support corporate finance functions including tax management, year-end accounts, treasury management, and asset management.· Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of up to 10 staff members, ensuring high standards of performance and professional development.
Requirements:Essential:o Proven experience in providing financial advice and preparing and monitoring budgets within a complex organisation.o Experience in presenting financial information to senior managers.o Experience in the preparation and monitoring of complex budgets.o Proficiency in using MS Office, particularly Excel.o Excellent analytical skills.o Involvement in the preparation of annual accounts.o Ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently.o Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.o Enthusiasm, motivation, and the ability to advise, guide, and motivate others.o Strong negotiation, facilitation, and customer service skills.o Ability to work unsupervised.o Ability to work effectively as part of a large team.o Ability to travel between various work locations to meet operational requirements.
Desirable:o Experience in preparing information and reporting on financial performance.o Experience using Oracle Financials and Discoverer.o Awareness of VAT issues affecting Local Government.
