Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer - Substation Protection and Controls

Location: East Coast, USA (Various Locations)

Compensation: $160,000 - $200,000 (Based on Experience)

Company Overview:We are a leading energy services firm specializing in electrical infrastructure, including substation protection and control systems. Our projects span across the east coast of the United States, ranging from complex upgrades of existing substations to the development of new and greenfield projects. We are currently seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer with extensive experience in substation protection and controls to join our team.

Position Summary:The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead and oversee the protection and control systems design for substations within a voltage range of 15kV to 345kV. This is a unique opportunity to work on both upgrading existing systems and the design of new, greenfield projects. The ideal candidate will have in-depth technical expertise in substation protection and controls, as well as a proven track record of delivering high-quality engineering solutions on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and implementation of protection and control systems for substations ranging from 15kV to 345kV.
  • Manage complex upgrade projects and new greenfield substation designs from conception to completion.
  • Perform system studies, relay coordination, protection schemes, and setting calculations.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, clients, and contractors to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues with protection and control systems in existing substations.
  • Develop and review engineering deliverables, including schematics, control diagrams, and project specifications.
  • Support the development of project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field).
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on substation protection and controls (15kV - 345kV).
  • Strong experience with protection relay settings, relay coordination, and fault analysis.
  • Knowledge of protection schemes, control systems, and SCADA/automation systems for substations.
  • Hands-on experience with major substation protection and control equipment manufacturers (e.g., SEL, ABB, Siemens).
  • Familiarity with both upgrade and greenfield project work in the utility industry.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results under pressure.
