Senior EngineerNicholas Associates (on behalf of our client)
Location: West Midlands
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Engineer to join the HS2 team in the Midlands for our client. The ideal candidate will come from a Construction or Civil Engineering background, with proven experience as a Senior Engineer, and a strong focus on FRC (Formwork Reinforced Concrete).
Reporting to the Site Agent, the Senior Engineer will be responsible for managing the engineering aspects of the project, ensuring all works are constructed in accordance with the contract drawings, specifications, procedures, and plans. The role will also involve overseeing site engineers and mentoring trainee engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
Experience/Knowledge:
- Previous experience as a Senior Engineer (or similar) for a civil engineering contractor
- Expertise in reinforced concrete structures (bridges, basements, tunnels, culverts, tanks, formwork, falsework systems)
- Familiarity with CDM regulations and temporary works
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering specifications and testing procedures
- Commercial awareness with experience working in cost-sensitive environments
Skills:
- Strong communication, people, and team management skills
- Confidence to address HSEQ matters and lead by example
- Experience with BIM software (Fieldview/Dalux or similar)
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD/Autodesk/SketchUp is desirable
Qualifications:
- Degree/HNC in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
- Membership of the Institute of Civil Engineers (or working towards) is desirable
- IOSH Managing Safely or SMSTS certified
- Valid CSCS card
- Full UK driving licence
Health, Safety & Environment:
- Drafting and reviewing RAMS/TBS, ensuring workforce compliance
- Supporting the achievement of the clients safety targets and zero-tolerance policy for unsafe practices
- Implementing site systems consistent with company health, safety, and quality standards
Programme & Progress:
- Review short-term programmes and report site feedback
- Assist in identifying and resolving site issues that may affect progress
Design & Assurance:
- Familiarising yourself with design drawings and setting out requirements
- Managing temporary works design and liaising with TWC
- Raising and managing Material Approval Records (MARs)
Quality Management:
- Writing and reviewing ITPs, ensuring processes are followed
- Maintaining organised QA records and overseeing NCRs and defects management
- Leading on quality handover documentation and readiness reviews
