Diamond Search Recruitment are delighted to be representing a new client of ours, a well-established, successful and proactive business operating within the engineering and manufacturing industry.

Currently seeking a Senior Optical Design Engineer this exciting role represents a great opportunity to join the team. We are looking for a key member of the senior team to lead a crucial area of the R&D team’s work progressing optical amplifier designs for free space optical communication, with amplifiers designed for challenging applications both satellite and terrestrial-based.

Responsibilities:

• Be involved in the research, development and manufacturing phases of the Optical Engineering lifecycle.
• Lead the systems architecture and requirements.
• Optical design and development of simple and complex Electro-Optical Systems.
• Conduct lens and optical performance analysis/simulations.
• Ensure quality and consistency of detailed design, including numerical calculations, tolerance studies, etc.
• Support the integration and test of Electro-Optical Systems.
• Engagement with optical sub-contractor partners/suppliers.
• Involvement in reviews of optical designs in accordance with business and industry standards.

Requirements:

• In-depth knowledge of optical fibre lasers or fibre amplifiers or non-linear fibre-optics.
• BSc in and engineering discipline or physics.
• PhD is highly desirable
• Hands-on experience of the design and test of optical systems
