About the Role

Base Location: Flexible UK & Ireland | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSE offices or depots around the UK and Ireland.

Salary: £55,573 - £63,643 + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

The role is to support the Enterprise Control Centre (ECC) business critical Operational Technology (OT) applications and systems that are necessary to monitor and control electrical networks. This will include dealing with day-to-day issues with the primary OT applications including PowerOn Distribution Management System (DMS), data historian and SCADA simulation as well as proactive support and improvement of such applications.

There are two main aspects to the Operational Technology (OT) Engineer's job from supporting engineering for the Primary and Secondary OT applications as well as project engineering for Operational Technology, real time systems (RTS) projects.

- To provide hardware and software support management for Primary and Secondary Operational Technology applications such as Distribution Management system Data Historian and SIM SCADA.

- To support the design, configuration, testing and delivery of bespoke and standardised real time OT applications for use by others to monitor and manage the Enterprise electrical networks and maintain their performance in accordance with industry regulations and safety standards.

- To maintain and continuously develop OT application portfolio in line with OT strategy and the customer requirements.

- To coordinate the technical response to incidents to recover OT application systems as quickly as possible whilst preserving evidence for future investigation. This will include communication with bronze command, IT red alert and the Cyber Risk and Information Security team where required.

- To work closely and mentor, where required, OT support teams both internal and external to monitor and manage OT applications through daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly ongoing support tasks; ensuring OT applications are working well within their operational limits.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Excellent communication skills with a strong customer service and team working ethic.

- Strong problem-solving skills with excellent experience of working with internal and external providers to resolve faults and deliver improvements. 

- Operational Technology infrastructure and application system experience, including various operating systems and database applications.

- Self-motivated, focused and determined to deliver with the ability to work on your own initiative and manage workload.

- Understand and can demonstrate the rigor of managing an OT system in relation to change management, cyber security and operational excellence.
