Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Planner to join our team in Plymouth, working on a variety of exciting construction projects. As a Senior Planner at Balfour Beatty, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of complex construction projects by utilizing your expertise in project scheduling, resource management, and strategic planning. You will be involved in both tender and contract stages, providing comprehensive planning support while ensuring compliance with planning procedures and the highest standards of project management.
Key Responsibilities:
Tender Stage:
- Collaborate with the team to develop an optimized sequence and methodology for construction, design, and procurement strategies.- Produce and document comprehensive planning deliverables, including programs, planning philosophy, presentations, and reports.- Develop the Tender Programme, ensuring adherence to all requirements with a focus on precision and strategic insight.
Contract Stage:
- Lead the production, management, and maintenance of the Contract Programme, ensuring compliance with planning procedures and aligning with the Planning/Project Lead.- Produce, evaluate, and manage the project critical path, advising the project team on corrective actions when necessary.- Maintain project baselines and execute change control processes to ensure the project remains on track.
Resource and Contract Management:
- Manage labour, equipment, and materials to meet project objectives while minimizing delays and cost overruns.- Monitor the performance of subcontractors and suppliers, resolving any contract-related issues efficiently and effectively.
Strategic Planning Oversight and Mentorship:
- Provide strategic planning oversight, leveraging advanced scheduling techniques to drive project success.- Mentor and guide less experienced planners, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment within the planning team.
Data Analysis:
- Support the team in producing project data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress, identify deviations, and provide data-driven recommendations for project improvement.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.- Proficient understanding and management of data, processes, and workflows.- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts.- Leadership abilities, including the ability to mentor and develop junior planners.
Knowledge:
- Advanced proficiency with project management tools such as Excel, MS Project, and Primavera P6.- In-depth understanding of construction project management principles, methodologies, and best practices.- Advanced expertise in project scheduling and planning, including the development and management of complex project schedules.- Knowledge of tender and contract documents, specifications, and project risk management techniques (TRA, QSRA, etc.).
Experience:- Proven experience in producing and managing Construction and Contract Programmes for complex projects.- A track record of leading planning efforts for construction projects and delivering them successfully.- Experience managing relationships with clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
