About the Role:A highly motivated and experienced Senior SEN Officer is required to join a dynamic team. Reporting to the SEN Manager, the role involves overseeing a small team of Assessment and Case Coordinators, ensuring the Local Authority meets its statutory responsibilities in accordance with the Children and Families Act 2014.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading and managing a team to ensure effective delivery of statutory processes for children and young people with SEND (aged 0-14 or 14-25).
  • Ensuring timely decision-making regarding transport eligibility and providing evidence for appeals.
  • Overseeing the collection and analysis of data to respond to complaints, enquiries, and SENDT appeals within statutory timelines.
  • Developing and implementing systems that uphold person-centred planning, keeping the voice of the child central to decision-making.
  • Ensuring transparent and clear communication with parents/carers to reduce anxiety and promote trust.
  • Leading workforce development, supporting staff well-being, and creating a positive work environment.
  • Contributing to the planning and equitable distribution of resources for children with SEND.
  • Working closely with parents, carers, and young people to shape and evaluate services.

Key Outcomes:

  • High-quality and timely Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) in line with statutory timescales.
  • Completion of 95% of annual reviews on time and 96% of phased transfers within deadlines.
  • Continuous service improvement based on self-evaluation and data analysis.
  • Positive parent/carer and young people feedback indicating a person-centred and responsive service.
  • Staff who feel valued and supported in their roles, contributing to a positive working culture.

People Management:

  • Managing, motivating, and supporting the Assessment and Case Coordinators to achieve service goals.
  • Ensuring positive working relationships across teams and external partners.
  • Identifying and addressing professional development needs of the team.

Requirements:

  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience (Postgraduate qualification in a relevant area desirable).
  • Proven experience in leadership and management within SEND services.
  • Thorough knowledge of SEND legislation, statutory guidance, and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable commitment to person-centred and outcome-focused approaches.
  • Excellent self-management, organisational, and IT skills.
  • Ability to manage complex budgets and produce analytical reports.
