Senior SEN Officer
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dedicated professional to join a local council's Children and Families Service as a Senior SEN Officer. This role is vital in ensuring that children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) receive the support they need in accordance with the Children and Families Act 2014.
Reporting to the SEN Manager, the successful candidate will lead a small team of Assessment and Case Coordinators, overseeing key statutory processes such as Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessments, annual reviews, and phased transfers. They will play a crucial role in ensuring that all statutory responsibilities are met within required timescales, contributing to the continuous improvement of SEND services and enhancing the experiences of children, young people, and their families.
The post-holder will be responsible for implementing person-centred planning, ensuring clear and effective communication with families, and supporting the local authority's commitment to inclusive education. They will oversee specific areas such as tribunals, complaints, transport eligibility, and resource allocation, using data and evidence to inform decision-making and service improvements.
Strong leadership skills are essential, as the role involves managing and developing a team, promoting positive working relationships, and fostering a culture of continuous learning. The ideal candidate will have experience in SEND service delivery, a thorough understanding of relevant legislation, and a commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for children and young people.
