About the Company:

A global leader in developing cutting-edge technologies, particularly in fuel systems, electrical systems, and aftermarket parts for internal combustion engines and industrial applications. The company is focused on creating clean, efficient, and high-value products to promote sustainability and aims to achieve carbon-free combustion. Their century-long legacy of innovation and technological advancement underpins their commitment to building a brighter, more sustainable future.

Job Purpose:

Working within the Simulation Department on design assessment and optimisation of fuel injection systems using simulation techniques and physical test data.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct appropriate simulations (with a particular focus on tribology and structural analysis) to support design, development, validation, and manufacturing activities of diesel fuel injection system components.
  • Work closely with product team members (Design and Development Engineers), following the project and proposing design and testing recommendations based on simulation results.
  • Liaise with other functional groups (Materials, Validation) and customer teams to obtain and share information to improve the accuracy and value of simulation activities.
  • Report to the Simulation Manager, documenting methods, assumptions, results, and conclusions.
  • Prepare and present summaries of work to a diverse audience in-person and in conference calls.
  • Support the development and implementation of new analysis techniques to improve simulation capabilities and product performance.
  • Plan work activities effectively, support project planning, and complete work packages on time.
  • Assist in arranging meetings and compiling agendas and minutes.
What We're Looking For:

Skills

Mandatory:

  • Application of simulation methodology and fundamental physical principles to the design of hydraulic components.
  • Thorough knowledge of commercial simulation software like Ansys, AMESIM, and GT Suite.

Desirable:

  • Good understanding of tribology, ideally having worked on elasto-hydrodynamic analysis.
  • Able to perform simulation with fluid-structural interaction.

Attributes:

  • Proven understanding of the principles of physics and mechanical engineering.
  • Familiarity with fluid dynamics and metal fatigue principles.
  • The ability to study a problem and identify the most appropriate analysis techniques (hand calculations, 1D/2D/3D, testing actual components).
  • Understanding of the nature of models and the consequences of the assumptions used.
  • Ability to work as part of a team whilst showing self-motivation and initiative.
  • Some experience of following analysis procedures.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate via reports, emails, and presentations.
  • Be able to work, present, and communicate within all areas of the organisation, from shop floor to management.

  • Ability to prioritise and organise own workload.
  • Ability to support problem-solving with structured methodologies.
  • Willingness to travel for training, work with customers, and resolve problems with suppliers.
Experience & Qualifications:

Mandatory:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a suitable engineering or business discipline.
  • At least 5 years' experience using the above-mentioned simulation tools in an industrial setting.

Desirable:

  • At least 5 years' experience in analysis of high-pressure fuel injection systems and a detailed understanding of associated hydraulic components and advanced simulation methods applied to these.
  • Understanding of drivetrain tribology.
  • Experience with coding in Python.
  • Experience with CAD/Solid Modelling, preferably with SolidWorks or NX.
  • Understanding of detail drawing and geometric tolerancing.
