Our client a very large and respected Shipping Line in London is seeking an experienced Shipping Compliance Assistant Manager. Reporting to the Manager, Legal and Insurance and advising Europe and Africa (EUA) region on compliance and contract review matters. The primary responsibilities will be:
- Compliance focal point - for all matters compliance, including providing advice on National and EU Law or International conventions in relation to business activities including code of conduct, competition law, anti-bribery/anti-trust, conflict of interest, data protection (GDPR/cybersecurity), modern slavery, etc. and lead training initiatives across EUA.
- Investigation of compliance incidents - within the offices and Third Party Agents, providing detailed specialist guidance and assistance. Competently managing compliance incidents and communications effectively between all interested parties.
- Sanctions compliance - provide comprehensive support to all business stakeholders in the sanctions space, ensuring the company exercises all possible due diligence in maintaining, it's compliance with all pertinent sanctions regimes, minimising risks/potential gaps in compliance via day to day support and organisational training.
- Compliance resources - Ensure all compliance resources (training materials/documentation) are accurate, current and communicated in a timely manner to all relevant parties, and available via a dedicated internal Legal and Insurance Portal.
- Cross functional support - Support EUA stakeholders in identifying and mitigating compliance risks, enhance and implement compliance monitoring efforts and fostering a compliance culture/mindset in all we do.
- Maintain knowledge of - trends, developments and new technologies in the compliance space.
- Review commercial contracts (Annual Tender |Terms and Conditions) and where required support direct negotiation with the Customer's and Vendor's Legal Team.
- Analyse Agreements and Contracts - Through analysing all aspects of commercial contracts, terms and conditions, NDA's and purchase orders etc. The task will be to identify key terms and conditions, (including, governing law, termination clauses, liabilities, validities, warranties, payment terms, data protection, affiliates, etc.) in clauses and articles to best protect the companionways interests. Keeping proper records and reporting results.
The job holder must work closely with the Manager and Head of Business Planning, Administration and Agency Management to ensure all costs are budgeted for and kept within guidelines. This role will be based in London with time to time travel overseas. You will hold a Degree in Law and have 5 years plus, experience working in Compliance and/or contract review with a minimum of 3 years experience in a Supervisory role. A Maritime background is preferable. You will also have effective communication skills and the ability to articulate complex legal and compliance concepts to diverse audiences.
