About BEAR Scotland

BEAR Scotland is responsible for maintaining and improving 1962km of Scottish trunk road, including over 2000 bridges and structures, across some of the most scenic and challenging areas of the country. As a trusted alliance between Vinci, Jacobs, and Breedon, BEAR Scotland manages key infrastructure projects that ensure the safety and reliability of Scotland’s road network.

The Opportunity

Prime Workforce, on behalf of BEAR Scotland, is seeking a Skilled Operative with Safety Barrier Experience to join their team and contribute to the maintenance and installation of safety barriers along the trunk road network. This role offers the opportunity to work on significant infrastructure projects that impact road safety and the quality of Scotland's transport infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

As a Skilled Operative with Safety Barrier Experience, you will:

  • Install and Maintain Safety Barriers: Carry out the installation, maintenance, and repair of safety barriers on the trunk road network, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Conduct Inspections and Assessments: Regularly inspect safety barriers and related infrastructure to ensure they meet safety requirements and are in optimal condition.
  • Ensure Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, ensuring that all works are completed safely and in accordance with the latest health and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with the Team: Work closely with the team to carry out tasks efficiently, ensuring all works are completed on time and to the required specifications.
  • Operate Equipment: Safely operate relevant tools and machinery for barrier installation and maintenance activities.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of work completed, including any issues or concerns identified during inspections or installations.
  • Adhere to Deadlines: Work effectively to meet strict project timelines and ensure the safety of the road network is maintained.
  • Assist with Other Duties: Support other team members with tasks as required, contributing to the overall success of the road maintenance projects.

Your Skills and Experience

To excel in this role, you will bring:

  • Experience: Proven experience in the installation, maintenance, or repair of safety barriers or similar infrastructure.
  • Technical Knowledge: A strong understanding of safety barriers, including design, materials, and installation techniques.
  • Health and Safety: A solid understanding of health and safety regulations and a commitment to ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to road safety and operations.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and liaise with other stakeholders.
  • Driving Licence: A full, approved UK driving licence is essential, as travel to various sites across the region will be required.
  • Certification: Relevant certifications in roadworks or barrier installation (e.g., NRSWA, CSCS, or equivalent) would be advantageous.
