Specialist Teaching Assistant (STA)

  • Job Type: Full-time (38.5 hours per week)

We are seeking a dedicated Specialist Teaching Assistant (STA) to provide exceptional support to an SEN college in Oxted. This role involves contributing to the delivery of the curriculum and supporting the extended curriculum, with the opportunity to take sole responsibility for supporting students offsite. The STA will also be involved in transporting students to different college sites and carrying out various duties to support the educational environment.

Day to Day of the Role:
  • Provide support to students in lessons and across the extended curriculum, both onsite and offsite.
  • Take responsibility for supporting students autonomously at partner colleges when required.
  • Transport and support the transport of students between the site and partner college sites.
  • Create and maintain learning environments that facilitate student learning.
  • Support the use of specialist systems of teaching and learning.
  • Assist in the planning and supervision of extra-curricular activities, including excursions and clubs.
  • Supervise students during break and lunch times, ensuring positive behaviour and safety.
  • Develop and create learning resources to aid student learning.
  • Participate in tutor groups, supporting student support, planning, and facilitating strategies and interventions.
  • Manage and prioritise workload under supervision and collaborate within the team of Specialist Teaching Assistants.
  • Engage actively in the department appraisal system and CPD Programme.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience of working in a team.
  • Basic IT skills, including MS Office, email, and internet.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage and prioritise own workload.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to resolve conflicts and generate solutions independently.
  • Empathy with students, families, and colleagues, ensuring effective communication in day-to-day activities.
  • Physical fitness to carry out the duties of the role.
Desirable:
  • Experience working with students in an educational setting, particularly SEN.
  • Relevant further/higher education or equivalent qualifications.
  • Knowledge of specialist strategies to support student learning.
  • Flexibility in working hours within the allocated weekly hours.
  • Ability to drive and willingness to drive the fleet of vehicles, including the minibus.
