Reed are support a Greater Manchester Local Authority in their recruitment to this Statutory Compliance & Cyclical Maintenance Manager position.
In this position, you will play a pivotal role in driving forward vital and significant changes in building safety and compliance across the Council's owned stock, including housing, corporate, and schools.
Utilising your strong understanding of building safety legislation and statutory compliance, you will help develop existing commitments to the safety of the boroughs residents, workforce, and children, shaping future governance structures, roles, and policies.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Reviewing a housing stock of over 20,000 properties, lead on risk assessments across directorates, identifying higher risk buildings and mapping organisational responsibilities.
- Inform strategy for managing and improving structural and fire safety across council-owned properties, ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Act as a strategic lead for promoting culture change on statutory compliance, building resident trust, and embedding New Era principles into Wigan’s approach.
- Provide senior support and direction to the Safer Homes Strategy Group and Housing Business Delivery Board, linking to corporate governance structures.
- Ensure the provision of high-quality cyclical maintenance services, offering value for money and meeting legislative requirements.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Significant competence in understanding and executing statutory obligations related to public health, health & safety, environmental, building risk, safety, and fire safety.
- Extensive knowledge of current relevant legislation, regulations, and standards of performance.
- Charter Membership of CIH, CIOB, or other relevant professional body, or evidence of working towards this.
- Formal qualification in health and safety, such as IOSH, NEBOSH, or similar.
- Degree or equivalent in construction or housing management sector, with evidence of continuous professional development.
