npower Business Solutions (nBS) powered by E.ON is one of the largest Business to Business suppliers of energy in the UK. We are a £5bn revenue business serving approximately 20,000 customers and manage around 170,000 meter points.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Strategist to join our team. For this role, you will help to develop the overarching strategy and policy positions for nBS, as well as commercial strategies for business areas within it. You will identify sources of competitive advantage to drive progress, growth, sustainability, and risk mitigation as the energy market transitions to a clean power system. This role will offer the hybrid working approach, where you will be working in the office (Solihull) when required.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the Strategy Manager in the development and maintenance of the strategy for nBS, within the overall E.ON UK and E.ON Group strategic context.
  • Undertake qualitative and quantitative research of the external environment, such as customers, markets, technologies, policies, new business models and competitor strategies.
  • Help diagnose strategic problems and develop options for consideration, including opportunities for growth.
  • Support the External Affairs Manager to influence the external policy landscape, promoting the brand and reputation of nBS as a recognised and trusted voice of industry and consumers.
  • Perform horizon scanning by identifying new policy developments, facilitating the tracking of policies and related lobbying positions.
  • Understand the impact of the political and regulatory landscape on our strategic roadmap, identifying opportunities, risks and appropriate mitigating strategies.
  • Create reports and presentations for senior stakeholders, often in time constrained situations.
  • Provide expert policy guidance and advice to key business owners and customers and work closely with the Marketing team to leverage the nBS brand to promote the voice of the customer and business.

What we need from you

  • Highly numerate, with demonstratable experience of financial analysis and graphical representation of data.
  • The ability to undertake qualitative analysis to identify and convert themes into meaningful outputs.
  • Excellent communicator, with experience of simplifying complex themes for a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Experience of producing high quality written content, in both word and power point, for senior audiences.
  • A proactive and creative approach to problem solving.
  • Comfortable working on multiple projects with changing priorities, often involving ambiguity and tight timescales.

It would be great if you had

  • Relevant qualification with a numerate discipline or demonstrable work experience.
  • Previous experience of creating high quality insight which has been used for commercial decision making.
  • Experience of strategy development.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the commercial environment, regulatory framework and market context of the UK Energy Industry.
