Job Description :

Support Worker who has knowledge and experience of supporting individuals with complex needs, including mental health and neurodiversity, and demonstrable knowledge of safeguarding, disability and equality issues is required for a residential setting at a well-established organisation in Colchester, Essex.

SALARY: £32,768 per annum + Benefits

LOCATION: Colchester, Essex - there will be the requirement for some local travel

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: average40 hours per week, day shifts including weekend working, 12 hours per shift (including a 1-hour unpaid break daily)

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Support Workerwho has knowledge and experience of supporting individuals with complex needs, including mental health and neurodiversity, and demonstrable knowledge of safeguarding, disability and equality issues.

As the Support Worker you will provide high quality care and support to individuals with physical and mental health care needs and who, following involvement with the criminal justice system, are resettling back into the community.

Working as the Support Worker you will help individuals achieve positive and meaningful outcomes in line with their individual goals and person-centred plans.

DUTIES

Your duties as a Support Worker include:

  • Undertake one-to-one and group-work support that addresses the need for rehabilitation from a criminal justice point of view
  • Assist residents with daily living activities which could include personal care, meal preparation, household tasks and increasing well-being
  • Work as part of a small team, engaging with residents to plan, arrange and deliver/co deliver structured activities to support the resident’s safe re-integration into the community
  • Ensure that adequate information and records are kept including daily logs of support
  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with colleagues, residents, Offender Managers, and other agencies
  • Provide a safe environment related to health and safety in the workplace
  • Use PMVA (Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression) techniques when necessary to manage challenging behaviours and ensure the safety of all residents
  • De-escalate situations when necessary, remaining calm and applying conflict resolution strategies effectively
  • Provide support to individuals according to support plans and risk assessments
  • Support residents with daily living skills such as preparing and cooking meals, cleaning, and laundry
  • Provide practical assistance to residents with everyday tasks such as accessing external services, completing paperwork, accessing benefits, and finding move on accommodation
  • Where possible, promote activities in the local community
  • Bring to the attention of your line manager any behaviour which is likely to cause detriment to others / danger to the individual themselves
  • Take the appropriate action/escalate any matters of concern
  • Maintain records and files as required, including data entry as necessary
  • Operate within the policies and procedures of the Organisation, including Operational instructions, H&S, safeguarding and GDPR

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Knowledge and understanding of supporting individuals with complex needs, including mental health and neurodiversity
  • A demonstrable knowledge of safeguarding, disability, and equality issues
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Experience of working with a diverse range of people who have experienced a range of social/personal difficulties
  • Experience of working with Microsoft Word, Outlook and basic Excel
  • An understanding of safeguarding
  • Ability to manage and prioritise a variety of different tasks and duties accordingly
  • Ability to follow planned activity and adjust to change if necessary
  • Demonstrable commitment to the provision of high-quality person-centred support
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with good listening skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents, colleagues, and external agencies
  • Ability to exercise authority and reinforce boundaries in an appropriate manner
  • Work on own initiative and able to cope with stressful situations
  • Ability to motivate others and facilitate learning to change attitudes and behaviours
  • Being empathetic, with the ability to use tact and discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive issues

This role is subject to an enhanced check level 2 which includes an Enhanced DBS check. All required checks will be undertaken as part of the pre employment process for any successful candidate.
