Avencia consulting is partnered with a leading specialty insurer and Fortune 500 company, who are looking to recruit a Surety Underwriter in their London office.
The Surety team offers a wide range of bonds and guarantees that support clients with their contractual obligations and help them successfully grow in an ever-changing global environment. They can offer significant surety capacities to the right business at competitive rates. They can consider international surety bonds and guarantee requirements and have the ability to structure cross-territory solutions.
This role is based in the Surety Division with special focus on developing new business opportunities and providing a first class reliable service to both clients and brokers.
The role
- Actively manage a book of surety business and also identify and capture new business opportunities in accordance with plan.
- Provide the highest level of service to brokers and clients. Develop and maintain broker and client relationships to support implementation of strategy and monitor progress and developments
- Champion continuous improvements and continually work with the team to enhance end to end process of information collection and bond administration
- Confidently and positively demonstrate the discipline of our chosen underwriting approach
- Positively contribute towards the team's underwriting strategy and diligently adhere to it at all times
- Regular broker and client meetings and travel to represent the business as required
- Apply appropriate underwriting practices including authority and guidelines control
- Providing underwriting support to other team members, overseas offices and handling of referral approvals
- Work with class head on portfolio management
- Overseeing of project work
Skills & experience
- In-depth knowledge of surety products, bond wordings, and counter indemnities; ability to negotiate effectively.
- Proficient in interpreting company accounts to assess credit quality and business capabilities.
- Expertise in underwriting due diligence, risk acceptance, portfolio management, and data analysis.
- Strong distribution network, customer focus, product innovation, relationship management, and marketing skills.
- Strategic planning, IT proficiency (including Microsoft 365), legal and compliance knowledge, and a commitment to self-management and development.
