The opportunity

You will join our Data Link Centre of Excellence systems design team leading the delivery of cutting edge Data Link electronics. Working with an international team across multiple business functions, to lead the development of technology that covers the entire design lifecycle, from Concept to In-service. This role is not only about delivering solutions but also about driving transformation, personal growth, and expanding influence over our products. This team is relatively small so there is huge scope to shape and grow whilst developing your own technical knowledge and competencies as you progress within MBDA. There are opportunities to work on multiple programmes including Ground Based Air Defence, Deep Strike and Air Dominance.

What is the role:

  • System design activities, working alongside subject-matter experts in data link design
  • Verification and Validation: develop comprehensive strategies for verifying and validating the electrical, mechanical, software, and transversal properties the Data Link.
  • System Certification support: work alongside the Equipment Design Authority and Test & Evaluation team to provide assurance and certification evidence of the Data Link to facilitate equipment delivery.
  • Technical management: successfully leading the systems design and technical trade studies.

Essential skills:

  • Strong systems engineering experience (ideally in a complex hardware, firmware and software system)
  • Experience of Model-Based Systems Engineering / SysML and use of Systems Engineering Tools such as IBM DOORS and Rhapsody.
  • A desire to develop and grow your systems engineering skills, and to improve the system engineering methods used within the team.
  • Experience of managing engineering work packages to deliver value outcomes, including co-ordination of other engineering teams and SMEs.
  • Ability to engage with subject matter experts and grow your knowledge of new technical areas.

Our department is an encouraging community, in which you can develop your skills and gain experience. Whilst the following is desirable, we will provide support and opportunities to learn these as part of the role.

  • Understanding of RF Systems and/or electronics (e.g. design challenges associated with RF circuits, information assurance, and cyber security considerations).
  • Familiar with configuration control systems (e.g. Rational Team Concert).
  • Systems engineering experience at multiple phases of the lifecycle: system architecture, verification and certification
