Job Description :

The role:

Northwood College seeks an enthusiastic and engaging teacher to join one of our leading departments in the Humanities and/or Social Sciences.

The successful candidate will be, above all, passionate about their relevant subject areas. They will be excited about sharing their subject passion with our students and ready to make a mark on our vibrant school community through their teaching.

The successful candidate will be required to teach a combination of Key Stage 3 Philosophy, Religion and Ethics, alongside at least one of Religious Studies, Psychology and/or Sociology at A Level. An ability to teach Religious Studies at GCSE would be advantageous but is not a requirement.

This role is available as either part or full time, depending on the subject offering of the successful candidate. Please indicate your preference in your cover letter, alongside the subjects you can offer.

The Departments:

Philosophy, Religion and Ethics is a highly regarded subject with a strong academic reputation. At KS3, students take a worldviews approach to studying major religions and contemporary moral issues. The subject is popular at GCSE (AQA) and A Level (OCR), with excellent results. The department hosts an annual Philosothon, guest speaker events, and an Interfaith event, fostering debate and critical thinking. PRE teachers also contribute to the Sixth Form PPE Extend course, preparing students for university applications.

Psychology is one of the most popular A Level choices, following the AQA Specification. Students consistently achieve high grades, supported by rigorous tracking and excellent resources such as interactive whiteboards, videos, and online platforms like Up Learn to enhance independent learning.

Sociology is a fast-growing A Level subject, attracting strong interest from Year 11 students. Following the AQA syllabus, many students combine it with Religious Studies and/or Psychology. Highly motivated learners engage with real-world case studies, making the subject dynamic and relevant.
