We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and inclusive school community. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about working with children with additional needs and wants to make a real difference in their learning journey.
Role Overview:In the morning, you will be supporting children with additional needs in KS1, helping them access the curriculum and providing tailored assistance to help them thrive in a mainstream classroom environment. In the afternoon, you will be providing one-to-one support to a pupil with Down Syndrome, ensuring they can fully engage with their individual learning plan and develop their confidence in a supportive setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist children with additional needs in KS1, including supporting their learning and social development.
- Implement specific strategies to support the individual needs of each child, ensuring they can fully participate in lessons and activities.
- Provide one-to-one support for a pupil with Down syndrome, offering personalised assistance to help them access the curriculum and engage in activities.
- Support the child in developing their independence, communication, and social skills.
- Work closely with the class teacher and other professionals to monitor progress and make adjustments to strategies as needed.
- Foster a positive, encouraging environment where children feel safe, supported, and confident to learn.
- Provide feedback to parents and staff on the pupil's progress and any concerns or achievements.
Key Qualities & Skills:
- Experience working with children with additional needs, especially in KS1.
- Understanding of Down Syndrome and experience supporting children with this condition would be an advantage.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with both children and colleagues.
- A proactive and flexible approach to meeting the needs of individual children.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent) are desirable but not essential.
