The Role:As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with a range of special educational needs, helping them access the curriculum and fully engage in school life. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to provide targeted interventions, ensuring each student receives the necessary support to succeed academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • One-to-One Support: Provide personalised support to students with SEN, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and other learning or behavioural challenges.
  • Group Assistance: Assist small groups of students, adapting lesson plans and resources to meet individual learning needs.
  • Learning Support: Help students with SEN to access the curriculum, providing explanations and additional guidance as needed.
  • Emotional and Behavioural Support: Foster a positive, encouraging environment, implementing strategies to support students' emotional well-being and manage behaviour.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with class teachers, the SENCo, and external specialists to deliver Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Progress Monitoring: Observe and track student progress, providing feedback to teachers and participating in reviews of support plans.
  • Inclusive Environment: Promote an inclusive learning atmosphere that celebrates diversity and encourages all students to participate fully.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, particularly with students with special needs, is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of various special educational needs and effective strategies for supporting children with SEN.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to engage with students, parents, and colleagues effectively.
  • Empathy and Patience: A caring, patient approach with the ability to build trusting relationships with students.
  • Adaptability: Ability to tailor support to meet the diverse needs of students and respond flexibly to challenges that arise in the classroom.
  • Team Player: Willingness to collaborate with teachers and other professionals to ensure students' success.
