Job Description :

This business is a technology driven engineering business with talented, experienced well respected HVAC and project engineers. This business is privately owned and located in Birmingham, UK. Their contracting customers are in the UK, Ireland and western Europe. As a result of sustained growth they are now looking for a Technical Manager.

Role Overview:

The Technical Manager is responsible for managing the Design and Engineering departments, providing leadership and strategic direction to enhance product development and support the senior management team across sales, contracting, and service and maintenance functions. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, innovative thinking, and commercial awareness to drive the development of cutting-edge solutions that strengthen the company’s market position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Departmental Management:
    • Lead and manage the Design and Engineering departments, ensuring the alignment of departmental goals with overall business objectives.
    • Support senior management in sales, contracting, and service and maintenance, ensuring technical teams are equipped to meet business demands.
    • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and collaboration within the teams.
  • Product Development Leadership:
    • Drive product development efforts by leveraging a thorough understanding of industry technologies and trends.
    • Apply innovative thinking to propose and develop solutions that enhance the company's product offerings and competitiveness.
    • Ensure that product development processes are efficient, scalable, and aligned with customer needs and market demands.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Utilise proficiency in Office 365 apps, AutoCAD, and relevant industry software such as Hevacomp, IES, Revit, and AHU Design/Manufacturing tools to oversee technical projects.
    • Provide technical guidance and decision-making support to ensure the effective use of these tools in design and engineering processes.
    • Maintain a thorough understanding of refrigeration technologies and Building Management Systems (BMS), ensuring that these are effectively integrated into the company's products and services.
  • Commercial Awareness:
    • Demonstrate strong commercial awareness to ensure that technical solutions are cost-effective and aligned with the company’s financial goals.
    • Collaborate with sales and contracting teams to provide technical input that supports commercial strategies and customer engagements.
    • Analyse market trends and customer feedback to continuously refine and improve the company’s technical offerings.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering/design roles, with a strong track record of managing technical teams and driving product development initiatives.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient in Office 365 apps, AutoCAD, Hevacomp, IES, Revit, and other relevant industry software.
    • Extensive experience with AHU Design/Manufacturing, refrigeration technologies, and BMS systems.
