Reed Norwich Procurement and Supply Chain are seeking a Technical Procurement Specialist with experience in a project-based mechanical engineering environment to join our client based in Watton. The ideal candidate will have a detailed knowledge of technical procurement and be familiar with both electrical and mechanical engineering processes. This role requires a balance between quality, delivery, and cost considerations, and involves leading supplier selection and development initiatives.
Day to Day of the role:
- Execute technical procurement activities in a project-based manufacturing environment.
- Lead supplier selection and development initiatives, evaluating potential suppliers based on quality, delivery capabilities, and cost.
- Apply knowledge of mechanical and electrical processes to engage with suppliers and assess technical requirements.
- Create new supplier accounts and maintain the supplier database in line with the company’s Supplier Approval Procedure.
- Compile and analyse price & delivery requests to suppliers.
- Monitor actual costs against budgets and communicate discrepancies to Project Managers.
- Place and expedite Purchase Orders to ensure materials are available in line with output targets.
- Manage key suppliers’ priority schedules to ensure timely receipt of goods.
- Communicate supply status updates to Project Managers and Production Planning/Management.
- Liaise with Stores/QC Departments and resolve any invoice queries.
- Review reorder levels and quantities of stocked components based on current demand.
- Assist with the company’s annual stocktake and identify new vendors and supply methods.
- Contribute to cost reduction, product development, or process improvement projects.
- Build and enhance relationships with vendors on the company AVL.
- Implement new Supply Chain processes and tender, evaluate, and award supply agreements.
- Benchmark vendor prices to ensure the company is receiving the best value.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in a manufacturing-based purchasing role.
- Broad understanding of mechanical and electrical processes.
- Competence in interpreting engineering CAD drawings.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Flexible approach with the ability to adapt to changing requirements.
- Excellent computer skills (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint).
Optional:
- CIPS certification (Or working towards).
- Engineering related qualification.
