Technical Technician in Welding
Location: Middlesbrough
Salary: Up to £26,535 Per Annum
Hours: 37 hours per week
Annual Leave: 30 days plus statutory Bank Holidays
Pension: NEST Pension Scheme
Job Purpose: The technician's role in Welding is to provide support to teaching staff in workshop environments during practical lessons. Supplemented by a range of technician duties including but not limited to undertaking stock control of consumable items, checking of items when delivered and have overall control of the equipment and facilities for the Welding department, and actively support all modifications to workshops.
Key Responsibilities
- To undertake stock control of consumable items including kit allocations and checking of items when delivered. Ensuring that all items are locked away when not in use.
- To assist in Directorate related risk assessments.
- To ensure that all equipment and machines are in a safe working order and report defects accordingly.
- To prepare the workshops in advance of classes.
- To undertake the general maintenance routines in line with Health & Safety procedures.
- To conduct a weekly check of workshop rooms and storage areas to ensure they are maintained in a safe, orderly and tidy manner.
- To assist the Curriculum Lecturers as required during the course of the class.
- To show an active commitment to the College's Equality and Diversity Policy, Quality Frameworks and Health & Safety Procedures.
- To actively participate in Continuous Professional Development including the introduction of new technologies to allow you to contribute effectively to the success of the College.
- To carry out such other appropriate duties commensurate with your skills, knowledge and experience.
- The College may, in consultation with you, need to vary these duties from time to time in order to respond to the changing requirements of the College.
- To safely maintain the stock of consumable items used across the directorate.
- To ensure sport related areas confirm to Health & Safety requirements.
- To assist teaching staff in the preparation of materials and teaching areas.
- To assist teaching staff as required during a class.
- To be available to support students in lessons.
- To be actively involved in the attainment of objectives contained within the College’s Development Plan.
- To commit to the Colleges Child Protection policy and promote a safe environment for children, young people and vulnerable adults within the College.
Requirements
- Grade C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent)
- Commitment to continuous professional updating
- A commitment to undertake any mandatory training relevant to the role
- To hold a relevant trade qualification (desirable)
- Basic knowledge of rules and regulations in Welding
- Ability to work unsupervised
- IT skills appropriate to the needs of the post
- Good communication skills
- Experience of working in an Engineering environment
- Experience of being able to carry out Welding activities
