Pay Rate per hour: Up to £565.00 per day

Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project has started construction and is now seeking private investment.

When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

Job Purpose / Overview:

The purpose of this role is to manage various elements of the Telecoms scope on site. The Telecoms scope consists of private radio, public mobile networks and fibre across the whole main development site. This is a varied telecoms scope across a challenging site, the telecoms construction manager will lead on key elements of the delivery to ensure Sizewell C key dates and objectives are met.

This role with engage with key Telecoms stakeholders such as Vodafone, BT and private radio contractors. The telecoms infrastructure is essential to support the construction of the Nuclear Power station.

This a delivery and operational role. The telecoms construction manager will be involved in procurement for new contracts required, project delivery for installing new infrastructure, on site quality checks of workmanship, and operations for the installed infrastructure.

Once the initial fibre and radio equipment is installed the operations side is key to monitor the performance of the infrastructure in line with the workforce and the construction site developments. As more people, plant & steelwork come on site this will put more stress on the systems installed causing potential capacity and interference issues.

The Telecoms team need to ensure the initial infrastructure caters for the peak capacity but interference issues will be hard to avoid due to amount of steelwork and concrete being constructed.

The construction manager will need to work with contractors to put in enhancements as the site develops and new areas are created which can’t be planned for.

The Telecoms Construction Manager will play a vital role in resolving technical radio and fibre issues, risk mitigation, change management maintaining high standard of compliance with Sizewell C standards. On site inspections are expected as part of this role to monitor quality of construction work as it progresses - this is part of the NEC supervisor role.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Resolution of technical issues on site.
  • It is expected this role will need to be on the Sizewell C 5 days a week.
  • Technical Quality checks of workmanship throughout the construction phase on site and handover. Taking the role as Supervisor within the NEC contracts.
  • Lead on delivery for areas of the scope to ensure key dates are met within Budget.
  • Building Working Relationships: Develop strong working relationships with other teams’ contractors and internal. Good Stakeholder management within the wider project of Sizewell C is vital for success on this project. This scope is just a small part of the puzzle, and the key is working out where it is fits in.
  • Coordination: Responsible for effective coordination with Utilities Construction teams, including Design, Temporary Works, and Consents Managers, to ensure compliance with DCO and best practices.
  • Internal Stakeholder Coordination: Ensure effective coordination with internal stakeholders, such as the Consents, environment, planning, quality, health and safety team.
  • Change Management: Manage changes efficiently to deliver the construction programme.
  • Risk Mitigation and Opportunity Realisation: Proactively identify and initiate early warnings to mitigate risks and issues and to maximise opportunities.
  • Change Control Management: Lead the management of change control through established processes, participating in the design change review process as needed.

Knowledge & Skills:

Essential

  • In-depth knowledge and experience of managing telecoms projects including fibre, private radio and public mobile operators.
  • Experience working on large-scale construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Competent at checking quality of telecoms workmanship.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Risk management and problem-solving skills

Desirable:

Familiarity with nuclear power plant projects or similar high-compliance environments.

Advanced negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

Knowledge of environmental management and sustainability practices.
