The role
- Be part of a successful team, and have a willingness to offer assistance and support to the property team, and the wider Network.
- Act as initial referral, authoriser and support for Assistant Underwriters.
- Underwrite and trade successfully individual risks in accordance with company strategy, and guidelines within Underwriting Authority.
- Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of new business, up-sell and x-sell opportunities.
- Deliver consistently and accurately our customer and broker propositions, including global programme management, and service level agreements and plans.
- Ability to work collaboratively with business partners (customer, claims, risk consulting, head office, finance, network, policy wordings, compliance and other lines of business) and colleagues to successfully deliver our product and proposition.
- Deliver positively against the business plan and Key Performance Indicators, including; Regulatory & Compliance, Contract Certainty, System Accuracy, Controls, Peer Review / Authorisation, Audits, Financials (Rate, Retention & New Business), Premium collection, Debt management and technical accounting processes.
- Actively participate and contribute to the Property Department by way of own initiative, forums, committees or projects to improve growth, development, effectiveness and efficiency.
- To undertake any other tasks as requested by the management team, in order that the team and business can achieve its objectives; including training, production of reports, keeping current procedures to implement organisational policies, involvement in projects, and research to maintain a high technical knowledge base within the Property Department and a leading product / proposition.
- Represent the Property Department and actively participate on internal sponsored forums, committees and projects.
- Enhance professional profile within the insurance industry, and cultivate strong relationships with our Customers and Brokers.
- Continually enhance your knowledge of; underwriting, risk assessment/management, regulatory and industry practice, and meet the minimum Continued Professional Development requirements of the CII and of the businessl.
Key accountabilities
- CII, Diploma in Insurance or Advanced Diploma in Insurance qualification is preferred or equivalent risk assessment/management, underwriting, contract law and regulatory experience.
- Experience in risk assessment and underwriting of all types of insurance placements. Knowledge of the reinsurance and overseas markets.
- Relevant technical commercial property underwriting experience, with a minimum of 3 years UK regional property experience.
- Deep understanding of commercial property insurance including trends, regulations and financial acumen.
- Good technical understanding about underwriting policy construction;
- Able to evaluate information from a variety of sources and solve problems.
- Good decision-making skills; able to consider the costs and benefits of various decisions and choose the appropriate one.
- Good communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills;
- Accuracy and attention to detail. Maintain accurate, orderly and methodical paper and electronic files that should always be available for auditing and meet regulatory requirements.
- Self-motivated and able to organise own workload effectively to meet service standards.
- Deadline focused; able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
