We have a fantastic opportunity to join our tax function for a VAT Compliance Manager on a 12 months fixed term contract to deliver a broad range of indirect tax compliance responsibilities across a range of countries supporting the existing VAT Manager.

The role will focus on the critical delivery of compliance and reporting allowing the incumbent VAT manager to pivot to focus on key areas of transformation and process improvement

The Role:

Key Responsibilities:

• The preparation and submission of UK, Ireland, Netherlands and Belgium VAT returns on a timely basis. Working either alone or with tax associate support depending on the country, this individual will be responsible for the delivery of the compliance requirements of the group
• Reconciliation of the VAT accounts with a rigorous attention to detail and appreciating the importance of this as a key control in the VAT process
• Filing proper Intrastat and other VAT statistical returns on a timely basis for the UK and EU entities as well as OSS and IOSS filings
• Working closely with the existing VAT team to develop processes across the group, ensuring appropriate financial controls are in place and documenting all of the critical processes within the compliance cycle
• Supporting with improvements to the ongoing VAT processes and bringing experience from prior roles
• Working hand in hand with the existing VAT manager and Head of Tax Compliance and Reporting to embed improvements and changes in processes into the day to day compliance cycle
• Indirect tax advisory on an ad hoc basis as required by the business
• Potential for involvement in other VAT compliance requirements including the export VAT process

Location:

This role is based in Nuneaton, and may be occasionally required to travel to our London Hub or to any other location of H&B. We support flexibility and productivity of our employees by hybrid working arrangements with minimum 2 days presence in the office.

The Person:

Key Requirements:

• Must be tax qualified with ATT or CTA, or a broader accounting qualification such as ICAEW/ICAS or recognised equivalent.
• Significant practical VAT compliance experience including having successfully delivered timely and accurate VAT compliance across a number of countries in previous roles
• Experience of retail would be useful but not essential
• An understanding of indirect tax consequences of movement of goods including interaction between VAT and Customs duties would be useful
• Role would suit a VAT specialist with previous experience working in an in-house role delivering excellent VAT compliance
• Significant understanding of data, data manipulation, data interrogation
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team including supporting a tax associate with elements of the preparation of the tax returns
