We require Transport Department Vehicle / Motorcycle Technician’s to cover an existing workload within Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, based in Winchester (TBC).
- This is a permanent position
- from £32,247 up to £34,329 per annum
- Any offers would be subject to police vetting and right to work checks
Job Purpose:
- To Maintain the Police Fleet by Inspecting and maintaining vehicles or Motorcycles (dependant on Job advert).
- To repair & service police vehicles and equipment (vans, cars, generators or motorcycles in a timely manner.
- To identify maintenance requirements and preventative measures to ensure high fleet utilisation, during the course of service and repair procedures.
- To collect & deliver cars, vans or motorcycles when required.
- To investigate & diagnose faults using multi-Franchise equipment.
- To carry out test drives / rides in order to diagnose and assess vehicle suitability for road use.
- To carry out basic new vehicle / motorbike fit out and testing ready for police use.
- To assist in Vehicle and motorcycle recoveries.
- To give regular and effective service.
Skills and experience needed to be successful in this role:
- Vehicle Technician – A City and Guilds 383 motor vehicle mechanics or equivalent Level 3 qualification in vehicle repair and servicing or passed a full 3 year vehicle manufactures apprenticeship.
- Motorcycle Technician – IMI level 3 in motorcycle repair and maintenance or 3 year Manufactures apprenticeship or equivalent qualification.
- Desirable: City and Guilds 383 for vehicles electricians or equivalent.
- Relevant Manufacturers factory training courses or equivalent qualification for vehicles or motorcycles.
- Considerable post-qualification proven experience of servicing and maintenance in a vehicle/ Motorcycle workshop dealing with a multiplicity of car and light commercial vehicle types / manufacturers motorcycles.
- Have a good basic knowledge of electrical systems, to enable accurate diagnosis & fault finding of police equipment.
- To be computer literate.
- Be able to show a record of good time keeping.
- To be able to work with others.
- Experience of the repair and maintenance of vehicles / motorcycles post qualification proven experience of servicing and maintenance of vehicles / motorcycles would be beneficial.
- Use of a computerised vehicle workshop control systems.
