We're seeking a future team member for the role of Release Train Engineer, Vice President to join our Investments Engineering team. This role is located in London (hybrid). Job Purpose The role of a Release Train Engineer at BNY is to lead and serve agile teams as well as being an advocate and coach of agile processes. Release Train Engineers will also work closely with our Project Managers and may actively manage small projects themselves. The Release Train Engineer may oversee one or many Agile/Product teams at any one time. In this business and technology facing role, you should be resourceful, energetic, and ready to hit the ground running. You'll need to work well in a team, but also be self-sufficient. You should be ready to share ideas and fresh perspectives. In this role, you'll make an impact in the following ways:
  • Release Train Engineers are responsible for establishing and maintaining scrum accountabilities, events and artifacts for the our Agile teams, utilizing best practices.
  • Release Train Engineers are leaders who serve and steer Agile across technology using BNY standards and processes.
  • Uphold the process, while protecting the team from over-committing or complacency
  • Coach scrum teams; remove impediments; look to resolve conflicts and issues
  • Provide consultancy to projects and business departments in matters relating to Agile best practice, process, procedures and management of the PBIs (Product Backlog Item) and resources (where appropriate).
  • Actively partner with:
  • Business and technology Product Owners
  • Other Release Train Engineers to agree a shared understanding of the Scrum Framework and a set of common best practices all teams should aim to achieve, and participate in a Release Train Engineer Guild;
  • Project Managers in the company to help develop project processes and procedures, and participate in appropriate forums to help address this responsibility
  • Provide regular reporting to stakeholders and management, automating wherever possible.
  • Administration of JIRA and Releases information.
  • Seek to explore and coach outside of the scrum team, helping others on their agile journey:
    • Coach teams on agile philosophy
    • Integrate related frameworks and tools within the company
    • Develop a common understanding and requirements for the agile process
    • Provide training to staff to improve their knowledge, capabilities, through direct communication as well as participation in training efforts, course specification, training delivery and so on.
    • Help teams navigate agile tools and software
    • Encourage employee and stakeholder buy-in
To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following:
  • Formal education in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline preferred.
  • Accreditation / Certification to Professional group preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean-Agile principles, practices, frameworks, and methods
  • Coaching and mentoring approaches, including the distinction between the two
  • Experience successfully running agile projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Experience with SAFe framework, Experience playing hands-On Release Train Engineer/ Or a leadership role in a SAFe Train
