The starting salary for this role is £52,047 per annum based on working 36-hours per week.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) have an exciting opportunity to join the Logistics team as a Workshops Manager, to support a workforce who maintain and manage a variety of vehicles and equipment ranging from fire appliances to the jaws of life.

About the role

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) provide an emergency service that looks after approximately 1.18 million people. The Logistics Department within SFRS support the service and maintain a wide variety of vehicles and equipment, from front-line appliances to boats and everything in between, as well as a number of specialist vehicles.

As the Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the efficient and sustainable operation of the workshop including staff, suppliers and contractors involved in the service, maintenance, and repair of our operational fleet. Your responsibilities will also include managing accurate data, providing leadership to the local workshop teams, ensuring compliance with legal regulations, managing budgets effectively, and driving a productive and a positive team culture across the department.

The day-to-day work of the Engineering Manager comprises of:

  • Ensuring all vehicles and equipment are maintained to at least the minimum level, as required by statutory guidelines
  • Managing the servicing and repairs of our fleet which is approximately 230 vehicles and 18,000 pieces of equipment which is done at our workshop in Reigate
  • Management of all staff within the department
  • Liaising with other services to enable exchange of information, both internal and external, to identify trend failures, and if required to successfully affect the required resolution
  • Acting as focal point for all projects requiring engineering input

Shortlisting Criteria

Tobe considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearlyevidence the following:

  • City and Guilds HGV Motor Vehicle Mechanics / equivalent IMI Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair - Heavy Vehicle/ BTEC ONC / HNC
  • Good understanding of project management and excellent data analysis skills
  • The ability to function effectively autonomously or as part of a team
  • Holder of or working towards Transport Managers certificate of professional competence
  • Minimum Category C driving license
  • At least 7 years of progressive experience within the blue light services
  • At least 10 years' experience with Hydraulic, Pneumatic and Electrical systems
  • Holder of or working towards NEBOSH certification
  • An ability to provide engineering solutions and willingness to undertake training for working on specialist vehicles/equipment
  • Welding, engineering, and fabrication skills
