Youth Worker
Tradewind Wigan are currently looking for three Youth Workers to be based within a school in Wigan Pupil Referral Unit (PRU). Starting as soon as possible working full time until July 2025 and could turn permanent for the right person.
Tradewind is working in partnership with a 'Good' Alternative Provision in Wigan to recruit an experienced Youth Worker to work within the schools pastoral team. The school are offering three positions with a full year contract.
You will be working with children aged from 9-16 who are no longer in mainstream school. You will be working with the pastoral team working across the school with all different year groups ranging from Key Stage 2 - Key Stage 4.
The most recent OFSTED graded the school as 'Good'. At the Alternative Provision they aim to ensure that they give them the necessary support to improve their confidence, self-esteem and enable them to become successful learners in school and prepared for their future working lives.
These children have been excluded from their mainstream secondary schools due to behavioural challenges, therefore we are looking for Youth Workers who are experienced with these types of young people and can demonstrate an ability to deescalate obstructive behaviour when presented to you.
The ideal candidate for this role will have Team Teaching Training and a minimum of 6 months experience working in an Alternative Provision environment or have worked extensively with learners with SEMH (social, emotional and mental health needs).
After visiting the school, I was really impressed with behaviour and the state of the art facilities. This school also encourages and healthy and active approach to everyday school life. The school has a welcoming team of staff and a strong and well-structured SLT.
The school is located on the outskirts of Wigan which is accessible by car with close links from M65 with a large free car parking and easily accessible via public transport

The school is based on the outskirts Wigan extremely close to motorway links. Alternatively, if you are travelling by public transport, there is a bus stop in walking distance.
