ISRO Government Jobs Available - How To Apply

The Indian Space Research Organization, or ISRO, is the government of India's space agency. It has its headquarters in Bengaluru city. The mission is to harness space technology for national growth and promote scientific and planetary exploration in space science.

The Indian National Space Research Committee (INCOSPAR) was established in 1962 under the tenure of Jawaharlal Nehru. It was created under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), with recognition by scientist Vikram Sarabhai of the need for space research.

INCOSPAR expanded in 1969, still under the DAE, and became ISRO. In 1972, the Government of India set up a Space Commission and the Space Department (DOS), which brought ISRO under the DOS.

How It Came To Be

The development of ISRO thus institutionalized Indian space research activities. It is governed by the Does, which reports to India's Prime Minister.

ISRO created India's first satellite, Aryabhata, which was launched on April 19th in 1975 by the Soviet Union. This was named after Aryabhata, a mathematician. In 1980, Rohini was the first satellite to have an Indian-made launch vehicle, SLV-3, placed into space.

ISRO later designed two additional rockets: the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) for launching satellites into polar orbits, and the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) for placing satellites in geostationary orbits.

The Organization's Goal

ISRO's primary goal is to leverage space technology and its application to various national tasks. The Indian space program was guided by Vikram Sarabhai's dream. Sarabhai is considered the Indian space program's father.

India's economic growth has made its space program more noticeable and active, as the country is looking for greater space technology self-reliance.

India launched as many as 11 satellites in 2008, including nine international satellites, and went on to become the first nation to launch ten satellites on one rocket.

Two major satellite systems have been placed into action by ISRO: Indian National Satellites (INSAT) for communications services and Indian Remote Sensing Service (IRS) for natural resource management.

Abdul Kalam said in July 2012 that ISRO and DRDO were doing work to develop cost-reduction technologies for access to space.
